About Kezar Lake and the surrounding area... Lovell is a pleasant little town located in western Maine near the New Hampshire border and just a couple of miles from Kezar Lake. In the late 1800s, the village of Lovell became a summer resort area when city dwellers began building cottages near the lake for their vacation homes. The natural beauty of the area and the peacefulness of the town of Lovell attracted those looking to escape the fast pace of the cities. Today, it remains a safe, picturesque, rural resort town. There are many beautiful lakes, streams and woodlands in the area, but Kezar Lake is, by far, the jewel in the crown of the Lovell area. Ringed by the beautiful White Mountains, Kezar Lake has been called “one of the three most beautiful lakes in the world” by National Geographic Magazine. It remains unspoiled and pristine, even after a century of tourism. Known for its’ superb salmon, trout and bass fishing, Kezar Lake is both a warm and cold water lake, with unique stream feeders that provide a wide variety of wildlife. A wide array of other activities are available around the lake, as well, such as swimming, canoeing, water skiing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking and birdwatching. New England’s largest nighttime ski facility, Shawnee Peak, is also just a short drive from Lovell. (info courtesy of Maine Vacation) Local Links LOVELL COMMUNITY PROFILE Getaway Guide Virtual Cities
